Vehicle Activated Signs (VAS), are road side digital signs that display a message when they are approached by a vehicle exceeding the speed limit or going too fast for the local road conditions. It has been shown that Vehicle Activated Signs that respond to or interact with drivers, reduce speeds significantly at potentially hazardous locations.

 

Rennicks now offers a comprehensive range of Vehicle Activated Signs which increase road safety by advising motorists of a potential hazard ahead. Each sign is designed unique to its location in consultation with the client.

 

Using ultra-bright LED’s, vehicle activated signs provide an extremely visible and immediate warning to motorists. They are ideal for locations such as sharp bends and crossroads or any location where it is necessary to warn motorists that their speed is excessive for the road conditions. They are activated by in-built radar which detects any vehicle approaching the location at an excessive speed. When the radar detects the approaching vehicle exceeding a pre-determined speed threshold, the sign immediately illuminates and displays a warning to the driver. When the speeding vehicle passes the location, or when they reduce their speed to a more appropriate level, the sign stops displaying the warning message.

 

Where a location lacks mains power, vehicle activated signs can be run by solar and/or wind power. This allows the signs to be powered by 12V batteries which are recharged by solar panels and/or wind generators. These have a low maintenance requirement and are ideal for rural locations where mains power may not be easily available.
